The story behind us

Alan Marsden opened Arctic Whisper Lab in spring 2019 after seven years working in other people's salons and growing increasingly frustrated with the double-booking model that most of them ran. The idea was straightforward: one stylist, full attention, no client left processing alone while the chair is filled with someone else. The name came from a habit Alan had of keeping the studio temperature cooler than most salons. Cold air keeps colour processing predictable, and clients tend to think more clearly about what they actually want when they are not overheated.

The first year was a single chair in a rented room above a florist. By the end of 2020, the waiting list had grown long enough to justify moving into a dedicated studio space. The fit-out took six weeks and Alan did most of it himself on weekends, which is why the shelving is slightly uneven on the left wall and he has never fixed it. The studio now runs five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday, with a small number of same-week slots held back each Monday morning for clients who book at short notice.
